More flexibility
With the ability to handle client/server workloads, interactive workloads or both, the entry server provides maximum flexibility. Its full compatibility with existing AS/400 systems lets businesses adopt a distributed model, where existing interactive applications are left on current AS/400s, while new client/server applications are handled by the entry server. In addition, both can be run on a single entry server.

The interactive performance of the entry server makes it a good choice for replacement of older 200 and 400® series AS/400 systems. In addition, the Integrated PC Server for AS/400 makes the entry server an excellent, competitively priced alternative to PC servers.

AS/400e entry server
The entry server offers growth options within the model designed to increase the performance and input/output capability of the system as much as three-fold. This simplifies the selection process, allowing the same hardware to grow as the customer's needs do.

The entry server includes:

A choice of five processors offering unconstrained Commercial Processing Workload (CPW)* ratings of from 73.0 to 319.0 in client/server environments, and 16.0 to 67.0 in interactive environments

4.19GB base or 8.58GB optional base DASD (expandable to 85.8GB)

Main storage: 2159 and 2160 processors - 64MB expandable to 832MB. 2164, 2176 and 2183 processors - 256MB, expandable to 1024MB

Multi-function I/O Processor, providing support for disk storage, internal tape, CD-ROM, a system display console and communications lines

One workstation adapter

Communications Adapter for Electronic Customer Support (ECS)

Ethernet or Token Ring LAN adapter

Available Concurrent Repair Capability, making it possible to repair or replace disks while the system is fully operational
