Cellars and Wine Centre of Langhe and Roero
THE BARBARESCO WINE CENTRE
ENOTECA DEL BARBARESCO.
This enoteca located in the deconsecrated church of San Donato in the middle of the village, brings together the producers of the communes in the Barbaresco area and is home to an cational exhibition relating wine from the vineyard to the cellars. Ten Barbaregos of differing vintages can be tasted every day. This was inaugurated in 1986 and is the youngest of the Piedmontese Wine Centres. It is housed in a deconsecrated chruch formerly dedicated to St. Donatus and the home of the Battuti Confraternity. Erected by the local inhabitants at the end of the 19th century, its bell used to be rung when there was a threat of hail, so that the population might be warned of the imminent peril and pray to God to avert It. This link with viticulture has led to its choice as a showplace for the best wine produced in the Barbaresco area and as a centre for the promotion of this wine and information concerning it. Plenty of space is devoted to an explanatory display. The visitor is provided with a description of the Barbaresco area and its local towns. He is also offered both plain and unusual facts and figures related to Barbaresco itself. Before leaving, he can stop off at the tasting counter and judge for himself the worth of what he has been told make comparisons between one brand and another and receive further information of both a technical and a touristic nature.
