Hi all,
I hope this entry on investing in New Zealand will be useful to many of you and that I can identify a need for subsequent monthly updates. Updates will probably take the form of economic analysis and the identification of specific investment opportunities.
The turn of the millennium is particularly significant for New Zealand in that we are hosting the 1999 APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation) meeting in Auckland in September, we will be the first nation to see in the year 2000, and we are also hosting the Americas Cup yacht race as defenders.
New Zealand generally encourages foreign investment although does not offer subsidies or tax incentives as encouragement. Before acquiring land or making an investment of NZ$10 million or more in a company, foreign investors must satisfy criteria set by the Overseas Investment Commission.
